A sunlit Spanish-style hillside home in San Pedro was transformed into a textured, bohemian, and highly functional retreat. The client envisioned a space that felt natural, lived-in, and quietly cozy, layered rather than styled.
In the living room, architectural features were gently emphasized rather than overwritten. The exposed ceiling beams were treated with limewash to soften and highlight their form, while a mature fiddle-leaf fig, affectionately named Figgy Smalls, and delicate maidenhair ferns introduced organic movement and life. A thrifted bookshelf, styled with restraint, along with comfortable seating and collected accessories, brought cohesion to the intimate footprint without visual excess.
The foyer was approached with intention and practicality. Coat hooks, a shoe-bench, and a small landing tray for masks and sanitizer addressed daily routines shaped by the pandemic, while a substantial textured media console concealed the client’s extensive electronics collection, keeping the space composed and uncluttered.
In the dining area, flexibility guided the solution. An expandable table was selected to support occasional gatherings of six while remaining appropriately scaled for everyday use. Positioned in the corner to preserve flow, the table could be easily re-centered when hosting. Lucite chairs were introduced to visually recede, maintaining openness and allowing the room to breathe.
The result is a home that feels effortless and personal, where thoughtful design supports how the client lives rather than competing for attention.
